CONGRATULATIONS to Uralla on winning their second Walcha News Cup after they defeated Round Swamp in a cliffhanger by three runs at the Park last Saturday. Uralla were also minor premiers and thoroughly deserved their win after being the most consistent team throughout the season.

WHAT an unbelievable end to the grand final with Swamp losing five wickets for six runs off seven deliveries at the end of the match. The Swamp were 5/105 chasing 114, but unfortunately for them couldn’t seal the deal.
THE premiership decider wasn’t a high scoring affair but there were plenty of twists and turns from the word go right up until the final ball was delivered. Well done to both teams who played the grand final in the right spirit while providing plenty of entertainment throughout the game.
GRAND Final poultry farmers were Nick Endacott, Simon Wood, Andrew Fuller, Nathan Swann and Chris Herd from Uralla while Ben Hamilton remained not out. For Swamp Ben France, Lachie Fletcher, Lachie Laurie and Jim Boyd failed to score whereas Ossie Kuhr remained unbeaten on 0.
POULTRY Farmer(s) of the Year - A tie between Colts team-mates Troy Tape and Tommy Le Strande with six ducks each just ahead of daniel Blanch from the Kentucky Club on five quackers.
THE Bowden boys retained the Walcha Golf Club Championship titles last Sunday when Andrew won A Grade and his father Jamie took out B Grade. “Buddha” started the final 18 holes two shots ahead and despite finding himself in trouble a couple of times finished with the same two stroke advantage over runner-up Simeon Cross.
IN B Grade Jamie had a comfortable five shot win over Miles Archdale and Don Brooks while Brian Lynch won C Grade by five strokes from Mal Ballard. Vets went to Simeon Cross who also collected the Nick Cross Memorial for the best three round nett total.
IN C Grade Brian Lynch got the job done with a score of 275 (87,91,97) after finishing five strokes ahead of Mal Ballard 280 (91,95,94) while veteran Max Holstein was third on 295. Overall winner on the day was David Sweeney with a 63 nett which entitled him to a prize supplied by club president Allan Green.
BEST of luck to the 12 Walcha golfers Allan Green and Miles Archdale, Mal Ballard and Owen Presnell, Peter Norbury and Wayne Brennan, Jack O’Hara and AJ Cross when they represent our club at the NSW 4BBB Sandgreen Championships at the Manildra this weekend.
A GENTLE reminder that the Colleen Cross Memorial has been rescheduled from March 31 to Sunday March 24 and is to be played under a two person medley format. Hopefully my ‘mulleydooker” partner Julie Hoad will be able to get in some weight training before then to strengthen her shoulders. She will need to if she is going to carry me.
THE Greater Northern Tigers women’s rugby league team which includes Walcha Jillaroo players Robyn Broadbent and Katelyn Smith were defeated by North Coast 22-0 at coffs Harbour last weekend. By all accounts the team squandered too much possession when they completed less than half their sets which certainly didn’t help matters.
THIS Saturday Greater Northern take on Northern Rivers at Bellevue Oval in Armidale at UNE from 12.50pm. The women’s match which will be followed by the men’s representative teams. Heard a whisper that Robyn will be shifted from half-back to hooker this weekend.
WALCHA hosted the District Pairs Bowls last Thursday. Walcha duo Esther Hunt and Janice Rizzi won defeating Armidale City pair Enid Dougherty and Caro Farr-Wharton 23-18 in the final.
The winners advanced to the decider after rounding up Walcha pair Lynne Watts and June Hayes in a semi-final 25-23.
