AT around 3.30pm, the Jillaroos are scheduled to take on Tenterfield in their Group 19 Second Division Ladies League Tag match before the Roos line up against the Tigers under the recently installed new lights which hopefully will be a lot brighter than the ones at Woodville Oval last Friday night.
DESPITE rumours the Rams can van was going to shut after the rams played their two matches, that is not the case. It will be in operation thanks to the co-operation of licencee Bernardo Lynch until the footy finishes.
PLEASE note: No alcohol is permitted into the ground due to the can van being in operation. Your assistance with this matter will be very much appreciated.
LAST weekend, the Rams won A grade against Narrabri 32-22 and lost Reggies 21-12, while the Roos and Jillaroos both went down to Uralla. By all reports, the Rams look like they are in for a big season and the Roos have plenty of potential within their ranks, as have the Jillaroos. Best of luck to all four teams during the upcoming season.
WALCHA Rugby Union Football Club was established in 1894 and this year celebrates their 125th year or quasquicentenary season. There would be little doubt that milestone will be remembered at different stages throughout the season, especially when a ball is held on August 17, the weekend Walcha have the bye.
THE hard luck story of the opening rounds for both codes would have to be that of Roos hooker Daniel Pascoe pulling a calf muscle during the warm up. He didn't even get to run on with his team.

IT was a real family affair when the best and fairest awards were handed out at the recent touch footy presentations held at the New England Hotel. Vikings veteran Jason Latham was named A grade player of the season after he finished on 21 points, well clear of the Abraham brothers, with Beau on 14 points and Jock on 13 points.
JUST to keep it in the Latham family, Corbin polled 25 points for Orange Tigers, the highest in the junior division. His brother Preston was next best on 17 points after performing well for the Black Warriors throughout the season.
THE A grade player of the season award was Jase's third after having collected the main prize in 2009 and 2013, which leaves him second on the list behind Cougars legend Barry Hoy who has five to his name. Jason also won the C grade best and fairest player in 1999.
CONGRATULATIONS to local law enforcer Anthony Smith and "Coomooloo" grazier Lee Fletcher on winning the 2019 Walch Golf Club Foursomes Championships last Sunday. For those people unaware, the "Fearsomes" is played with one ball where one player hits off the even numbered tees and the other player tees off the odd ones.
AFTER the tee shot each player hits alternatively until the ball is holed out, which can test the friendship depending on where your partner leaves you to hit your next from. When Jack O'Hara approached me about playing, I told him I wouldn't want to put him through it, but I'm glad he talked me into having a hit.
Roos news
THE Walcha Roos were defeated by Uralla 26-6 at Woodville Oval last Friday evening after the home side lead 10-6 at half-time.
Walcha couldn't have got off to a worse start after coughing up possession from the kick-off on their own tryline, only to see Tigers forward Duncan Elks dive on the ball to score.
Midway through the opening stanza, Uralla increased their lead to 10-0 with a converted try before the visitors bounced back through a try to Riley Gibson and a conversion to skipper Steve Eveleigh.
Uralla lengthened their advantage with an unconverted try early in the second half and then went further ahead to 20-6 when they touched down and converted. Another converted try finalised the score and although the Roos did have a few chances to score, they were unable to do so.
Co-coaches Steve McAlister and Chris Bruce have talent to work with, both looking at the positives to come out of the game.
Best and fairest - Club 3 Brody Smith, 2 Triston Flower, 1 Jason Latham. Group Steve Eveleigh 2, players' player Brody Smith and Tim Partridge.
This Saturday night, Walcha host Tenterfield at the Park in both men's and women's after the Rams take on Inverell in two grades.
