THREE out of four wasn't too bad last Saturday when the Roos and Jillaroos both won their Group 19 games against Bingara here at the Park, while the Rams demolished Pirates in their Central North A grade match at Ken Chillingworth Oval in Tamworth. Unfortunately, the "Reggies" were defeated 39-24 by Pirates.

HOW long would it have been since Pirates were flogged by 50 points? The Rams opened up a 29-0 lead by halftime and, according to co-coach Barry Hoy, "once they got on top, they didn't let them back into it". Walcha continued where they left off when play resumed, and by full-time, the score had blown out to 65-14.
THE only thing that dampened celebrations was a dislocated ankle to breakaway Henry King, who required an ambulance to transport him from the ground. Half-time was called early after the club secretary suffered the injury eight minutes before the scheduled break.
RAMS outside back Pat Keen raced over for a hat-trick of tries, while fellow speedster Ed Cordingley registered a brace of his own. Zone points all went to Walcha - 3 Tom Bucknell, 2 Simon Newton, 1 Sione Kamato.
ROOS backrower Brody Smith handed in an energetic all-round performance which led to him scooping the pool when best and fairest awards were handed out after the game. Not only was Brody voted players' player by his teammates, he picked up three group points from the referee and three club points as well for his effort which included two tries.
The big thing, though, is the players are out there having a go...
IT wasn't a bad 24 hours for the Smith family. Brody's younger brother Tyson won the open bullride at the Moree Pro Rodeo last Friday. That would have been a relief for Tyson as he apparently has dismounted prematurely on a couple of occasions a fraction of a second before the bell rang.
ROOS hooker Daniel Pascoe must have walked under a ladder a few weeks back because his run of bad luck continued last Saturday when he severely injured his arm, which requires surgery tomorrow. "Zampa" played well against Bingara and received a group point, but unfortunately for him, that is the end of his season.
IT was a somewhat ugly win for the Roos, who failed to score a point during a scrappy second half where there were too many elementary mistakes made, especially on first tackles and close to the sidelines. But by the same token, a win is a win.
THE big thing, though, is the players are out there having a go and the team collected two competition points which was pleasing for co-coaches Steve McAlister and Chris Bruce. It was evident at times veteran halves Jason Latham and Glenn Olrich were frustrated with the simple mistakes being made when they know some of the players can perform better than what they were.
LONG-range tries were flavour of the day when the Jillaroos took on Bingara at the Park on Saturday. Speedster Jordie Hoy showed her opponents a clean pair of heels on two occasions after she raced 50m to score tries, while players' player Rachel Green ran in her first of her two touchdowns from about the same distance.
THIS weekend, the Roos and Jillaroos are hosting Bundarra here at the park on Sunday, while the Rams are also at home when they tackle Quirindi on Saturday. Best of luck to all four teams.
THERE were no bragging rights at the Higgins household last Saturday after veteran Col won the weekly nine-hole men's division at golf. His wife Margaret took out the ladies section of the event. What's more, they both racked up 22 stableford points.
At the 19th
Life member Neil Dark and former club president Barry Hoad were the winners of the BAM competition played for trophies donated by Jon Izzard, and Julie and Owen Presnell last Sunday after they carded a creditable score of 75 stableford points.
The event was played as 4BBB for the first six holes, followed by six holes of aggregate and then six holes as a multiplier.
Runners-up were Bob Denniss and Mal Ballard on 71 points while sweepstakes went to David and Simone Sweeney 67, Margaret Davidson and Tim Beaumont 66, Jenny Lisle and Allan Green 65 65, John Mann and Max Holstien 65, Don Brooks and Rose Baumer 64 on countback from Anthony Smith and Kathryn Smith.
Sharpest shooters at the pins were Mal Ballard (3), David Sweeney (9) and Kyle Goodwin (16) while no player was clever enough to reach the beach on the home hole.
In matchplay, David Sweeney defeated Ben Clifton 5 and 3.
Last Saturday, Col Higgins won the weekly nine-hole competition after he accumulated 22 points, runner-up was Brian Lynch on 19 points, while Margaret Higgins took out the ladies division with 22 points whereas Polly Locke was next best on 19 points.
NTP on three went John Mann.
This Thursday, Walcha host the next round of the New England Veterans Pennants competition, while on Sunday, a number of players are heading west to compete in the Barraba Open.
Here on the home front, Andrew Robertson is supplying the prize for a stableford round.
