AS THE majority of people would be aware last Saturday was election day and about 9am I headed off to the Multi Purpose Centre to get my name marked off the electoral roll before casting my vote.

After carefully selecting who I wanted to vote for, it was off to drop off the white and green ballot papers in their appropriate boxes
NO REAL drama there except when I went to hand the green slip in, attendant Claire Lockyer pulled me up and asked me what I was doing before pointing out I was about to slide the "how to vote" brochure into the box and not the green slip.
It was back to the cubicle I had filled it out in. One small problem was my old mate John "Bruce Willis" McClean was viewing my every move.
THEN on Monday, after telling the above story to Council office employee Nadine "Dino" Powell and Liz "Trish" Hobbs I strolled out the front door and yelled out to a bloke I thought I knew as he began to cross Hamilton Street.
Only problem was when he turned around it wasn't Murray Fenwicke, but someone I'd never seen before.
TO MAKE it worse, when I asked him how he was going, he informed me he'd had better days, before I replied, "Well, I hope things get better," as I tried to get myself out of an awkward situation.
He countered with, "I hope they do, they can't get much worse." Immediately, I thought it was a good idea to cease the conversation then and there and move along.
THEN it was off to the newsagency to purchase a Northern Daily Leader, which I had difficulty locating. Eventually I asked the newsagent Quiton Titmus if he had sold out of Leaders.
"Quint" looked at me a bit strange before he told me there were still some there and the large letter "L" on the front page could have possibly given it away. It did then.
HEY, I know it's not all about me, but one of my favourite times of the year is May.
That's when the annual Country Pool Managers Conference is held, as it has been for over 20 years and I get to catch up with some of the people that spend the majority of their summers the same way as what I do.
THIS year it was held at Armidale which was an absolute dream to return home from compared to some of the places that are further afield in terms of travelling time.
Next year will be a challenge if Walcha Council sees fit to send me. It's on the Murray River.
BAD luck I was involved in the next one too while travelling home with fellow former Roos team-mate and club life member David Green from Ashford last Saturday.
AS THE sun was disappearing and the moon was appearing Dave flicked on his ute lights as he murmured "that's better", and it certainly did brighten up the road much more than it previously was.
ROOSTERS supporter "Grubby" explained to me he was having a bit of trouble viewing the road up until then, but when he changed the lights from "parkers" to the real deal, the old line, "I can see clearly now" was never more evident.
THE Walcha Rams host Gunnedah here at the Park this Saturday which is also annual Ladies Day.
It is a gold coin donation gate entry for the ladies and there will be a silent charity jersey auction in support of the Black Dog Institute.
ANYONE who has somehow picked up an extra large Walcha Roos jacket by mistake and finds it a bit big, I have probably got your coat if it is a size XL, which is a bit snug on me.
Hopefully we can do a swap and live happily ever after.
BIG WIGS of the Week : Bowling Club - Mick Steep, Mark Fergusson 14 points (well done boys) W.V.S. Raya Osboorne, Pete King, Apsley - Dave Abraham. Newie - Andrew "Kerno" Kelly, Kerry-Anne Coulter, John McCormack. All 12 points each.
WHEN I mentioned to Dave Abraham, my fellow Sea Eagles supporter, that he was a "Big Wig" for the second time in three weeks he immediately came clean and told me it's not him.
He gets his better half, Julie, to select the winners because she does a better job.
FUNNY thing that last Saturday at Ashford, Julie won the Roosters 100 Club after she correctly picked the number required to collect the $100 cash.
"Camera girl" Jodie McAlister who videos the Roos games was a bit unlucky when she had the try scoring doubles numbers 9 home side, 2 the visitors, but unfortunately, the wrong way around.
WHEN Jodie mentioned she had the numbers I suggested to her that she would definitely get something for that.
Jodie was a bit sceptical at the time and when I told her the thing she was going to get was experience, all she did was nod her head.

Well, that's me for this week. All the best
