THE Walcha Rams put out the Gunnedah Red Devils' fire when they defeated them 46-17 in their Central North fixture here at the Park last Saturday. The Rams ran in some very good tries including long range efforts by Dom Bower and Ed Cordingley. At times during the match the Rams defence was brutal which also went a long way towards the final result.

BIG prop Henry Leslie entertained the can van crowd early in the game when he plunged over for a couple of "meat pies" in the scoreboard corner. Sione Kamoto and Charlie Keen also crossed the white stripe while Cordingley added a second to the try scoring list.
BAD luck for the Rams Reggies who went down 26-19 to the Red Devils after the visitors scored a late try to break a 19-19 deadlock late in the game. Ollie Crawford touched down twice while Lachie Fletcher scored the rest of the points through a try and two conversions. This Saturday the Rams have a big road trip to Scone.
THE Roos and Jillaroos host Uralla here this Saturday with all the action kicking off at 1.30pm. A charity auction will be held at the BC after the men's game with jerseys played in on the day up for grabs.
THE big green Roos are back on the road again after they caged the Tingha Tigers 30-22 here at the Park last Sunday. Walcha bounded away to an impressive 14-0 lead after just nine minutes, mainly because their opponents had rarely touched the ball.
DOWN but not out, the visitors did fight back and played some free-flowing footy, especially from a couple of their players who were very nimble on their feet. Both teams provided plenty of entertainment for the crowd while referee Ben Lewis thought it was a good tough game as he filled out his match report.
PROBABLY the biggest cheer of the day came when diminutive winger Jhorden Coulter landed a sideline conversion after Jock Abraham ploughed his way over in the kiosk corner. "Dooky" also crossed for a try of his own and added one more conversion.
THE Jillaroos suffered their second loss of the season when they went down 18-10 to a very handy Tingha outfit. Co-coach Robyn Broadbent led from the front and picked up three club B&F points along with two Group points. No doubt she will get together with co-coach Bonnie Brown to plan some tactics before the Jillaroos take on competition leader Uralla here at the Park on Saturday at the later time of 1.30pm
WALCHA travelled to Glen Innes last Tuesday to compete in the final round of the New England Veterans Pennants golf competition and although they trimmed the lead of the eventual winners Armidale by a point it wasn't enough as Walcha finished third overall.
ARMIDALE scored 1,250 points over the five rounds, Guyra notched up 1,246, wile Walcha racked up 1,239 points. Guyra won the final round with 239 followed by Glen 232, Walch 231, Armidale 230 while Uralla could only manage 176.
THE Jock Nivison Memorial trophy is presented to the Walcha player who accumulated the most stableford points over the five rounds, which goes to Neil Dark this year with 179 points. He edged out Wayne Brennan 175 while Col Berry was third on 165. "Darky" top scored for Walcha in the last round after he carded 40 points. "Brenno" was next best on 38 points with Ross King third on 34 points.
STILL on golf, the annual tri-club (rugby, rugby league and golf) two person ambrose is scheduled for Sunday June 16 with Landmark Boultens providing the trophies.
ROOS REPORT
Walcha defeated Tingha 30-22 at the Park in an entertaining Group 19 Second Division match last Sunday after leading 14-12 at half-time. The Roos hit the lead after just three minutes when utility player Mitchell Eveleigh bulldozed his way over near the scoreboard on the back of a powerful run by Max Abraham.
Three minutes later five eighth Jason Latham burrowed his way over and then three minutes later skipper Steve Eveleigh cruised over near the posts after a pass from his brother Mitch rebounded off the Tigers defence.
When goalkicker Dean Kelly raised the flags the Roos lead 14-0 but Tingha had barely touched the ball in the opening 10 minutes. The visitors bounced back with two converted tries and then drew level early in the second half when they kicked a penalty goal.
From the restart the Tigers knocked on and first play from the scrum Jock Abraham powered his way over in the kiosk corner before replacement kicker Jhorden Coulter converted from near the sideline.
Tingha responded almost immediately with an unconverted try to leave the score at 20-18 after 12 minutes of the second half.
With 10 minutes remaining Coulter flashed over in the kiosk corner and then converted a try. Latham scored after he split the defence to race over under the sticks shortly after. Tingha regathered from the kick-off and scored to finalise the scoring.
This Sunday Walcha host Uralla at the Park, followed by a charity jersey auction at the Bowling Club.
