Walcha cross country runners place to go to state championships

A number of local children enjoyed participating in the PSSA Regional Cross Country at Mullaley Public School last Friday. The track was challenging with a small water course and undulating terrain.

They were among 1500 competitors from across the north west who descended on Mullaley for primary and secondary area cross country. The first six runners in each age group qualify for state.

The Armidale Zone ( of which Walcha Central School is a part) won four teams events - 8/9 Years Boys, 8/9 Years Girls, 10 Years Girls and 12/13 Years Girls. Fourteen students were successful in securing a position to compete at State Cross Country at Eastern Creek on Friday July 26.

Walcha Central School students who gained placings were: Fletcher France 19th, Preston Latham 26th, Stephanie Blake 3rd, Charlie Crawford 12th, Corbin Latham 24th, Emily Blake 4th, Emily Ussher 9th, Harriet Crawford 2nd, Jemma Warden 1st and Hamish Warden 17th.
