A popular (and dramatic) demonstration was the flammability of hydrogen gas.
The UNE Discovery Voyager delivers interactive activities to classrooms of regional and rural northern NSW.
"We aim to inspire students from as young as four years old in Kindergarten through to Year 10 students," said Dr Jean Holley.
"We capitalise on their natural curiosity and existing knowledge of the environment that we live in, and cultivate confidence and a can-do attitude."
The demonstrators use equipment and methods that schools don't normally have access to, and where they can, link the activities to research happening at UNE.
"University academics and educators have helped develop the activities to highlight current ways of thinking in particular areas,e.g. pollination biology, exercise science, neuroscience and precision agriculture," Dr Holley said.
The Discovery Voyager will return to Walcha later in the year to visit Walcha Central School.
