GOOD luck to the Walcha Rams when they take on the Pirates in the Central North Grand Final for the third year in a row here at Peter Fenwicke Oval next Saturday. Unfortunately for the Rams they have been defeated in the previous two encounters 24 - 8 and 40-39 by the Pirates who are attempting to win their fourth title on the trot.

There is little doubt when the Pirates arrive here on Saturday the first thing they will see are the colours of their opponents. Go the Rams.
CREDIT where credit is due, Pirates have qualified for all four grand finals this Saturday - 1st grade Reggies, U-19s and the Women's 7s - where they will play Walcha, Moree, Barraba/Gwydir and Gunnedah respectively.
THE Rams won their last first-grade premiership in 1997 and will be out to break the drought on Saturday. Heard a bit of a whisper that co-coach Barry Hoy may well call it a day following the grand final and that veteran Lachlan "Board" Brown is one game away from hanging up the boots. A Ram's win would be a fairy tale ending for the pair if that is the case.
PIRATES may well be without three of their key players on Saturday after their five eighth Sam Collins injured his Achilles and had to be carried off against Narrabri last weekend while their props Barton Leach and Andrew Collins both collected their third yellow card for the season which means an automatic one-game suspension.
IF IT comes down to home support the Rams are well on the road to victory going on the effort local business houses have gone to with their red and white decorations. THE Roos' season has been finalized and it was great to see the players who deserved prizes collect their trophies at the recent presentation. Although a few have indicated they will retire there are still plenty prepared to keep the green and gold flag flying next year.

FORMER Club champion Wayne Brennan reckons the "real game" is played off the stick where he and club captain Willie Brennan hold a very narrow 1-shot lead from local sheriff Anthony Smith and Miles Archdale. Club president Allan Green and Jim Nivison are next best on 77 which could be a bit too far off the pace.
HATS off to the Australian cricket team that finally got the job done against the Poms in a rain-interrupted fourth test last weekend. The Aussies retained the Ashes but didn't have things all their own way on the final day. Pity Pat Cummins didn't finish with a "fivefa" after he put Australia in the box seat with four early wickets.
