Mr Coleby-Williams told the 120 strong crowd how to plant a drought resilient garden with (mostly) frost resistant flora.
He also congratulated the town on the use of Cork trees as a street planting along South Street ( a choice attributed to the suggestion of the late Olga Lisle) and remarked on the wonderful native wattle blooming around the region.
Despite the prevalent dry condition the 71-year-old Walcha Garden Club continues to maintain a strong membership base and currently has approximately 80 members.
The annual spring luncheon is always sold out and this year was no exception with locals and Armidale, Tamworth Cottage, Tamworth Orchid, Tamworth, Quirindi, Werris Creek, Ogunbil Dungowan, Guyra club members in attendance.
Mr Coleby Williams also spoke about 21st century gardening and the positive effect the sight of your garden can have on people's mood if it is populated with healthy plants which are suited to the area and conditions.
Outgoing WGC president Julie Ireland was awarded the Garden Clubs of Australia Anne Williams Clark Memorial medallion for outstanding service to the Walcha Garden Club.
