For the second time in 28 seasons a new patron had to be found after Ruth Cotterill left this world earlier this year, following 15 seasons as patron. 'Mrs Cott' was Walcha cricket's first life member.
THE Walcha Rams held their annual presentation last Friday night at the Rugby Club House where veteran back-rower Lachlan Brown was named A Grade best and fairest, players' player and best defensive player, but unfortunately he wasn't able to attend the prize giving to collect his trophies.

THE 'Harry' a perpetual shield in honour of late-life member Harry Chester which goes to the club person of the year went to hard-working events and media manager Anna Young.
STAR forward Sione Kamoto received the International Player silverplate, fullback Tom Bower was runner-up in the A Grade B&F, skipper Simon Newton scored the most points during the season while Charlie Keen was judged to be the keenest trainer in the top grade.
REGGIE'S B&F player was Wally Davidson who also collected the players' player trophy, B&F runner-up was Billy Porter who was also voted best reserve grade trainer. Most improved player was Tom Wake whereas Gus Davidson finished U19 B&F player.
STILL on rugby, how bad was that decision to suspend Wallabies Reece Hodge for three games when he came out of the tackle worse off than his Fijian opponent who had the ball. Here I was thinking the NRL was getting soft, but that was right up there with it.
WALCHA cricket president Ed Blomfield was reinstated for a 10th term when the association held their AGM at the Bowling Club last week.
In fact, local cricket has only had two presidents in the past 18 seasons after Darrell 'Bikie' Brazell was the chief for the previous eight seasons.
FOR THE second time in 28 seasons a new patron had to be found after Ruth Cotterill left this world earlier this year, following 15 seasons as patron.
'Mrs Cott' was Walcha crickets first life member and she took over as patron when the second life member Earl 'Blue' Hogan passed away after he had served 12 seasons by himself before that.
WALCHA Cricket secretary Dan Hunt suggested the easiest way to appoint a new patron was to nominate the present three life members Rob Laurie, Peter Boyd and AJ Cross. They were elected subject to the approval of both 'Truck' and 'Duke' .
ALTHOUGH local cricket isn't scheduled to start until Saturday October 12th a few of the older brigade had their first outing of the season when they played a New England veterans game between the 'Bushies' (Walcha and Uralla) and 'Townies' (Armidale) here at Peter Fenwicke Oval last Sunday.
A FEW of the boys are getting on a bit these days but most remain fairly competitive. Some more so than others.
The Walcha players were Barry Hoy, Peter Boyd, Peter Mooney, Wayne Boyd, Stephen Haslem and Craig Morgan while Bob Jess and Nick Endacott both play in the Walcha competition.
JUST for the record, the 'Townies' made 188 runs before the 'Bushies' ran down the total with a wicket up their sleeve.
Next outing for some of the players will be when a combined New England team take on Merewether here at the 'Park' on Sunday October 20th.
WALCHA Touch president Ben Ussher took on his position as association leader for a sixth term at the annual general meeting held at the Apsley Arms Hotel last Friday night.
There was a very modest attendance at the AGM meaning either most people are happy with the way local touch footy is run or they weren't interested in looking for a job.
AT THAT AGM the treasurer's position couldn't be filled so secretary Kristy Bird put up her hand to take on both positions. Kristy will receive some assistance from deputy treasurer Jack O'Hara.
