BOTH the Rugby League and Walcha Flippers must be happy with the way their respective executive committees are running their clubs because when both AGMs were held recently none of the main positions changed hands.
FLIPPERS secretary Leanne Swain and Treasurer Yolanda Mooney have put their hands up to continue with their duties while Alex Blake becomes the new race marshall when she takes over from long-serving Cathy Mackaway. Publicity offer is still A J Cross whereas the position of race starter hasn't been filled yet. Anyone keen?
THE Flippers would like to thank the Walcha Council for the addition of a new race clock to the facility which will enable swimming club members to keep an eye on their times during practice sessions. First swim meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 19 from 3.30pm.
A DECISION on where the Walcha Roos and Jillaroos play next season hasn't been made and won't be until after Group 19 and Group 4 conduct their AGM and can give us some sort of idea what their proposed formats for 2020 are going to be.
RUGBY League secretary Emma Hillier and Treasurer Sally Ann Hoy were both reappointed to their positions as were vice-presidents Johnny Byrne and Stephen Haslem. Added to the VP list was Barry Partridge who will also handle ground manager duties.
THE Walcha / Uralla veterans cricket team scored an unlikely victory over Inverell / Glen Innes in the New England vets competition here at Peter Fenwicke Oval last Sunday. Chasing 223 the Walcha / Uralla boys were in more strife than Speed Gordon at 6/63 but managed to get to 8 / 124 .
LOCAL legend Peter Boyd and Uralla's Rowan Chandler then put on an unbeaten 99 run partnership to get their team home. 'Duke' made 79 and 'Chalky' notched up 59 while Barry Hoy chipped in 19 and Bob Jex 23.
