"We all know and understand that water is our most precious resource," said Walcha Council general manager Anne Modderno.
"Saving our water and reducing our water usage can help to extend our supply horizon. "
Ms Modderno said the main difference between Level 4 and Level 5 water restrictions is the daily target usage per person.
"In level 5 restrictions, our target usage per person is 150 litres per person per day," she said.
"To help us achieve this 150L daily consumption target, Council will be launching a new community education campaign which will be focused on helping residents and businesses reduce and actively manage their consumption.
"The campaign will utilise a variety of measures and include digital and printed educational material, information and assistance on how you can read your water meter to check your daily consumption, and on-site inspections of water use."
Saving our water and reducing our water usage can help to extend our supply horizon
- Walcha Council general manager Anne Modderno
The Macdonald River stopped flowing weeks ago and has a depth of just over 2.5 metres at the town pump station; however, Walcha Council is still able to pump water from its two storage facilities and with frugal behaviour should be able to continue to supply the town until the next significant rainfall event.
Walcha Council will only irrigate public parks, gardens, roundabouts and sporting facilities with bore/groundwater or other non-town water supplies where available.
Water cartage from the town water supply is now for domestic purposes only for properties not on the town water supply.
"Walcha Council has been working hard on projects that will contribute to securing our water supply future," said ms Modderno.
"The largest project in this program of work is the design, development and construction of our new offline storage dam.
"Other projects in this space include a pilot program to investigate potential to use treated wastewater for construction purposes, accelerating the development of our emergency water supply plan and investigating opportunities where we can provide rebates for water-saving and water reuse initiatives."
Ms Modderno said securing Walcha's water supply future will be number one on the agenda when Council meets with community members for the annual regional meetings next week.
"I encourage members of the community to join us for the discussion," she said.
"Please bring your questions, ideas and comments for a constructive conversation."
On Monday, November 18 Mrs Modderno and her team will be at Europambela at 11.30am, Ingelba Hall at 2.30pm and the Walcha Council Chambers at 6pm.
On Tuesday, November 19 meetings will be held at Yarrowitch at 9am, Brockley Park at 11.30am, Nowendoc Hall at 2.30pm and Woolbrook School Library at 6pm.
