CONGRATULATIONS to local lawn bowler Brian Lockyer on being named New England Senior Sports Star of the year when the Armidale Sports Council held their annual sports awards last Thursday night. Locky won two world titles at the Deaf Lawn Bowls World Cup in New Zealand earlier in the year and also helped Australia win the overall teams world cup.

IT'S NOT the first time Brian has won the New England Sports Star Award having also landed the gong in 2011. He has been a finalist in 2010 and 2015 - the year I received my service to sports award. Good on ya big fella.
FORMER NRL player and 2001 Dally M Medallist Preston Campbell will be special guest speaker at Festival Friday to be held at the Walcha Central School on Friday, December 6th. A community game of touch footy is planned for 6:30 p.m. where Preston will be invited to play. Any part past or present players male or female interested in having a run in that match please contact touch president Ben Usher or myself .
THERE was no local cricket last weekend due to the Big Bike Festival bye and now the competition moves to Round 5 where Round Swamp take on Colts at John Oxley sports ground and Kentucky do battle with Uralla at Peter Fenwicke Oval .
AFTER four rounds of the competition Round Swamp and Uralla lead the way on 20 points after having suffered one loss each. So far this season Kentucky is in the third position on 12 points just ahead of Colts on 10.
ROUND Swamp veteran Barry Hoy has been representing the New South Wales over 50s squad at the national Veteran's Cricket Championships in Perth since Monday. Today is the final day of competition and at the time of going to print no details were available .
FORMER Walcha Road Round Swamp and Rugby League all rounder Peter 'Duke' Boyd and Uralla's Rowan 'Chalky Chandler are currently in Albury-Wodonga with the New South Wales over 70s team competing in the national championships. They started yesterday and the competition will go through to next Monday.
THE Ann Berry Memorial Golf day is just around the corner and it's time to start organising your three person Ambrose team for an event that keeps getting bigger each year. There will be a shotgun start at 10 a.m. and after play has finished a sausage sizzle lunch will be on offer. Come on, get your team together for a fine day out.
LOCAL sheriff Anthony Smith won't get the opportunity to play too many more rounds of golf before he leaves town but he did hand in an eye catching performance last Sunday when he won the scratch section of the Stroke Medal event with a two over par 72 .
