"Early in the year being able to get free entry to the show through a great funding stream lifted spirits," he said.
"Then the Motorbike Festival being brought together in a short time mainly by Susie Crawford, Lisa Kirton and Karen Barnes shows what can be done. This has laid the foundation for what will become an annual event and a boost for town.
"The Woman's Gathering was a great success under trying conditions which could not be foreseen when we were awarded this event."
Like most people Eric is looking forward to a weather pattern change in 2020.
These are desperate times for rural Australia but they will pass
"These are desperate times for rural Australia but they will pass," he said.
"I'm also looking forward to Council continuing to complete more projects like the dam, gym, community shed and Thunderbolts Way."
A fan of the festive season Eric says it always brings back fond memories.
"I find Christmas a great time, it reminds me of being a child and all that Christmas brought to me," he said.
"Times seemed so much simpler and easier then."
It makes sense then that Eric's ideal Christmas is having all his children with him.
"Creating the memories that they cherish as they get older," he said.
"I don't mind much what Santa brings me this year. Generally I don't want for much but he always seems to know what it is I need. Clever old fellow."
This year, Eric will spend the day on the Gold Coast Hinterland with his wife Sheree's sister and her family.
Times seemed so much simpler and easier then
"Our two daughters will be there, but our son Henry will be in Sydney and will be home for New Years Day," he said
Eric says his shopping is done, but it is always a hard job as his children get older.
"Apparently they don't like their parents choosing their fashion nowadays," he said.
"It worked when they were four. From a family point of view it is just nice to be able to take the day off and enjoy their company. "
And Eric's tips for ensuring a merry Christmas ?
"Don't eat or drink too much - which is more an ambition than a tip. Christmas ,like many things is what you make it. And for all the men out there make good use of the 'magic table' It still works!"
