Police confirmed the 59-year-old man died on December 29 about six weeks after he was winched to safety from a property on Blomfields Road.
The man was airlifted to hospital on November 7 with serious burns sustained while defending properties under threat from the Stockyard Flat fire on Blomfields Road and Kangaroo Flat Road at Yarrowitch, about 70 kilometres south-east of Walcha.

Police believe the 59-year-old man suffered serious burns after taking shelter in a water tank on a property at Blomfields Road.
He was found later that day by a National Parks and Wildlife Service employee.
He was assisted by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted by the Westpac rescue chopper to Port Macquarie Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
He was later transferred to Royal North Shore Hospital for further treatment.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
