Yarrowitch property owners Louise Clarke and Erica Halliday applied for a BlazeAid Camp in the week's after the destruction of the Blomfield Road community, however as a result of subsequent fires in the Walcha Shire around Nowendoc and Moona Plains the strike team is available to help anyone in the local government area who has had infrastructure affected by fire.
BlazeAid is a volunteer-based organisation that works with families and individuals in rural Australia after natural disasters such as fires and floods. Working alongside the rural families, volunteers help to rebuild fences and other structures that have been damaged or destroyed.
Louise Clarke has offered to be the local liaison person for the camp, and she will assist two BlazeAid coordinators: Greg Kirkham (Kirky) who will lead operations, and Lorraine Hildred who will handle the administration.
Up to 100 volunteers from across Australia and beyond are expected to take part in the Yarrowitch based BlazeAid project- many of whom are travelling retirees.
A public meeting will be held in the Yarrowitch Hall from 7 pm on Tuesday, January 28 to inform anyone from the local community interested in volunteering or having work done on their property how the process works. Service club representatives are also invited to find out about catering opportunities.
No fencing skills are required, and volunteers can spend a day, a week, or more either working in the camp, on property, or at home in the kitchen to provide some food.
All fencing materials, camp food and supplies will be purchased locally to boost the town's economy.
BlazeAid will also accept any donations of food, materials and money. A large quantity of corflute for temporary signage around the camp and on property is urgently required.
