Local golf professional Andrew Brennan will tee off in the Queensland open at Pelican Waters today and hopes he has a bit more luck than he experienced in the Queensland PGA tournament he played in at Toowoomba last week. By all accounts wet weather played havoc with the event where weather delays caused plenty of problems .

Towards the end of his opening round, AJ had hit his driver down the 18th and before he could play his approach shot to the green a weather delay was called. Anyway 2 1/2 hours later Andrew finally got to hit a 6 iron on to the green and then two-putted for par to give him an opening round even-par 70.
Considering AJ was five over par after 6 holes he made a great recovery to shoot five-under for the next 12 holes. Unfortunately for him, it all came unstuck from then on as he carded 80 for an interrupted second round and he missed the half-way mark cut.
Reigning Walcha News Cricket Cup cricket team Uralla will get to defend their title after they accounted for Kentucky by five wickets at Peter Fenwicke Oval last Saturday. Chasing just 76 runs on a sticky wicket Uralla didn't have things all their own way and at one stage were 5/33 in the 11th over. All-rounder Andrew Fuller and wicket-keeper Blaine Moore then put on an unbeaten sixth wicket partnership of 44 runs off eight overs to seal the deal. Uralla now take on minor premiers Round Swamp in the premiership decider. Uralla captain Cameron Wood missed last Saturday's qualifying final after injuring his knee during the week. Word has it that the talented left-handed batsman may be in doubt for the grand final which certainly wouldn't help Uralla's chances of retaining the Walcha News Cup if he is out.
Round Swamp is out to win their fifth premiership in the past decade while Uralla will be attempting to take out their third title in four seasons. Up until now Swamp have lost only one game, their opening match against Kentucky while Uralla have only lost to Swamp this season. Best of luck to both teams.
For the first time in many years Bendemeer competed at the annual Walcha District Small Schools Swimming Carnival last week and what's more one of their swimmers Daniel Bridge won the junior boys championship after winning his freestyle, backstroke and butterfly events over 50 metres. Junior girl Champion was Charlotte Gibson from Niangala school, 11 years girl champion went to her school mate Tilly Casburn while Woolbrook student Mia Ross was named senior girls champion. To be eligible for a champions medal each competitor was required to swim 50m in at least three strokes.
Last week a photo was published of the 1975 Walcha Roos Group 4 Rugby League premiership-winning team where coach Marty Williamson was named as the bloke on the far left in the back row. Anyone with an eye for detail would know that wasn't the case - Marty was directly above the individual photo of him printed below.
Who was the chap on the far left then? None other than Pakington Street resident, longtime 'Yalgoo' employee, and golf club life member John 'Ming' Mann who was manager of the winning 1975 Roos squad.
