Tenterfield, Glen Innes, Armidale and Walcha local government areas are set to benefit from the payments, under phase two of the NSW Bushfire Community Recovery and Resilience Fund.

Member for New England Barnaby Joyce announced the money, and said it would be provided through a joint initiative between the federal and state governments and administered by Resilience NSW.

"Bushfires are a destructive but unavoidable threat we face in rural Australia and while we can't stop them altogether, we can better manage and prepare for when they do occur," Mr Joyce said.

"If your organisation has a good idea that you think will help our community to get back on its feet, I encourage you to apply because a more resilient New England is a stronger New England."

The funding has been split into two streams: eligible councils and the broader community.

Councils have been contacted directly about the money, which come in payments of $100,000 or $250,000.

The other stream aims to deliver grants worth between $20,000 and $300,000 to communities in areas affected by bushfire.

This includes local groups, joint organisations, charities and non-government organisations, to spend on recovery and preparedness projects.
