Over the years Mrs Hoy has raised more than $22,000 for the NSW Cancer Council through her Walcha Tennis Club morning teas. Last year’s event generated close to $3,000 and this year will be similar once the money from donations and raffles ticket sales are tallied up.

For the first time a representative from the NSW Cancer Council was in attendance at the Walcha Tennis Clubhouse and Mrs Hoy was delighted.

“Thank you to everyone who has attended and to everyone who has helped make this morning happen,” she said.

“I won't list you all because I'll forget someone but thank you.”

Cancer Council NSW community relations coordinator Samantha Crawley was on hand to talk about the services NSW Cancer Council can provide with the help of donations; including a community transport service to help local patients attend appointments.

“We are over 95 percent community funded, and we rely on the generous donations and support of the community to continue our work in world-class research, advocacy, prevention programs and support services,” she said.

“The money for this community transport service was raised by the local community and the support service has gone back into the community.

“Cancer Council is Australia’s leading cancer charity working across every aspect of every cancer. Every day, we support families affected by cancer when they need it most, speak out on behalf of the community on cancer issues, empower people to reduce their cancer risk, and find new ways to better detect and treat cancer.”
