The Walcha Poultry Show for 2014 was held last Sunday and with over 500 entries and many spectators the organisers said it was one of the best shows ever.

While entries came from across the region, local breeders did well with results as follows: Stuart Wellings - placed in all the pit classes had a champion pit muff and was reserve pairs champion.
Colin Levingston had the champion hardfeather bantam pair, champion blue tail and champion spangle old English game (OEG) any other colour (AOC) and placed in the large OEG classes.
Andrew Blake had the champion Indian large, wyandotte AC, champion call duck, bantam duck and Elizabeth duck. Lee Blake had the champion large rhode Island red in the bantam class and the champion large Australorp.
Gwen Brazel had the champion Pekin black and placed in all the pekin classes. Amanda Brazel had the champion Sussex silkie and Call duck.
Brian Wellings was first place in the pit game classes, while Carlos Gonzalez had placings in the Rhode Island reds, Sussex bantam, the champion Ancona and champion Muscovy duck and Neville Brown had placings in the Rhode Island red classes and leghorn AOC and the champion Rhode Island white.
Ethan Mills had the champion junior pit game bantam and was the champion junior exhibitor.
Aaron Blake and George Lawrence had the champion large leghorn and Sussex, placings in the silkie and wyandotte, placed in the softfeather bantam, langshan and leghorn and the champion Sussex. They also had the champion Campbell and Cayuca ducks.
Lance Partridge had the champion pit game hardfeather and black bantam.
With the exception of junior champion Ethan Mills and pairs champion Colin Levingston, the overall champions of the show were from out of town: champion large hard feather went to Ross Gallagher from Uralla who was also a pairs champion; the champion large soft feather went to Mike Martin of Tamworth; the champion hardfeather bantam went to Bull Cocking; the reserve champion hard feather bantam went to Brody Davies of Armidale; the champion soft feather bantam was won by Ron Brown of Tamworth; the waterbird champion was entered by Ray Hickman; and Geoff Hine and Barry Simpson were the pairs champions.
