Firefighting crews are patrolling the area and a re-ignition is improbable, according to the Rural Fire Service.
The fire in Walcha started just after lunchtime Friday and ripped through about 360 hectares of bushland before being controlled just before 3pm.
In Uralla, firefighters were called to a grassfire on Barleyfields Road, which they quickly extinguished.
Authorities are urging residents to take care, with westerly winds gusting up to 50km/h and little chance of rain for the region over the next week.
Rural Fire Service inspector Tim Butcher said a fixed-wing aeroplane was stationed at Armidale Airport to respond to fire in the region by water bombing.
"The weather outlook is pretty grim, we're looking at less than average rainfall and higher than average temperatures and that's thought to last throughout the whole summer," he said.
From Friday, anyone wanting to light a fire in the region will need a permit.
Anyone found to have lit a fire illegally could face fines or up to a year's jail.
