On Saturday the Roos host Werris Creek at the Group 4 second division preliminary minor semi-final after they finished in fourth spot on the ladder.
Last Saturday Walcha were belted by undefeated minor premiers Kootingal 44-8, while the Magpies rattled up a similar score line against Boggabri.
This Sunday the Rams take on Scone in the Central North Tier 2 major semi-final, where the winner will qualify for the grand final and the loser heads to the preliminary final against Tamworth next weekend.
The gates officially open at 12.30pm on Saturday, with the minor semi-final of the Ladies League Tag between Werris Creek and Manilla starting at 1.25pm.
Around 2.30pm the Roos squad will line up against the Magpies.
Co-coaches Peter Berry and Jack O’Hara are confident of a good performance from their charges as they attempt to advance to the minor semi-final the following weekend.
Supporters attending the game are reminded that Group 4 will be running the show on Saturday and that no glass bottles are allowed onto the grounds, which is a Walcha Council stipulation anyway.
This matter will be policed so please abide by the rules to avoid any disappointment. Admission fees are $5 per person and $5 for pensioners and children. No passes allowed on Saturday.
On Sunday the Rams team to run on, named by coach Andrew Crawford, is from the front row to Number 8 – Jock Fletcher, Ed Blomfield, Sam Martin, Nat Brazel, Tom Rose, Will Fletcher, Jock Fortescue and Robbie Glenn, while the backs will be (from half back to full back) Charlie Cordingley, Simon Newton, Ed Churchill, Soni Halanukonka, Will Plush, Bevan Wood and Richard Young.
Speaking to coach Crawford yesterday morning, he suggested the way the boys trained the previous evening, not even the All Blacks would have got close to them. Hopefully the Rams can carry that form into Sunday’s clash with Scone.
All the action kicks off at 12 noon when Inverell take on Gunnedah in the reserve grade major semi final and the usual Central North admission prices will apply.
There will be a full bar and canteen facilities available on Sunday, while on Saturday there will be a canteen and a barbecue on offer. There won’t be a bar on Saturday but please remember any BYO drinks must not be in glass.
Go the Roos and the Rams!
