Organiser Nena Hicks expects it to attract a larger crowd that last year’s event which entertained about 120 people. Mrs Hicks said the whole idea was to build a sense of community, bring people together and in part bridge the city country gap by bringing a quality production to this rural area.
“It will be a fun occasion for families,” she said. “We are expecting a good roll-up with people coming from Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Narrandera as well as the local area.”
Sydney’s acclaimed outdoor theatre company will present their take on Much Ado About Nothing and Melbourne jazz band The Architects will help keep everyone entertained. The band is the same as last year but with a new name.
The romantic comedy is set during the later stages of World War II and the action takes place at a grand Sydney home when the characters are on leave from the Australian navy.
“Last year the actors were a little nervous about how they would be received in the bush and were blown away by how responsive the crowd was,” Mrs Hicks said. “This year they are looking forward to reconnecting with the community.”
Shakespeare on the Green will be held on December 6 from 4.30pm at the Nowendoc Public School.
There will be tea, coffee and a sausage sizzle for sale, but those attending are encouraged to bring picnic food and drinks, rugs, cushions or very low chairs.
Tickets cost $25 for adults and $18 for students with children under 12 free and will be available, cash only, on the day.
“We’ve had a lot of enquiries about camping so far and camping sites with great views, hot showers and sometimes koalas will be available at the recreation reserve,” Mrs Hicks said.
