Fellow cowboy Gerard Oversby won the open bare back ride. Nick Wilson is pictured here in the bull ride.
The numbers through the gates to watch all the action at the annual event were on par with previous years, although not everyone stayed until the end of the night due to the rain.
Competitor numbers were slightly down on last year with 361 final entries after scratchings.
Paramedics attended to two injuries during the event. Shaun Pittman was kicked in the face during his saddle bronc ride and Jackson Gill had his leg broken during his open bull ride.
Just before the main program kicked off in the evening the kid’s lolly scramble was a big hit although organisers said the clean up of lolly wrappers the next day was not so much fun.
Big Al the rodeo comedy clown made an appearance again this year. His quick wit and skills kept many a spectator on their toes.
In an interview with ABC radio prior to the event Big Al said “I wear the face paint and let the bulls chase me, my job is getting the crowds going.”
As a former pro bull rider himself, he knows the uncertainty of the bull riding arena.
Bull riding protection clowns Lincoln Brown and Tim Webb amazed the crowds with their quick responses to help bull riders get to safety.
Both are very fit bull fighters which they need to be to run in the sand and protect the riders.
Lincoln has been named Protection Clown of the Year from the ABCRA on many occasions.
Peter and David Kelly were this year’s pick up boys who pulled bronc and bareback riders to safety.
Rough riding stock was supplied by Gill Brothers Rodeo.
Walcha Tennis Club, Lions Club and Golf Club members provided the catering and Walcha Hospital Auxiliary members manned the gate.
