The eight-race program included a qualifier for the country series, with the first and second placed horses in that race making it through to the finals next month.
The Country Championship Series and Provincial Championship Series were designed to support and promote NSW racing in the country and regional areas.
The country series will be contested by eligible horses that must be under the care of a country trainer, and each qualifying race will be worth $100,000 in prize money with the final offering total prize money of $300,000.
To encourage a good crowd special guest Manu Feildel, chef and host of Channel 7’s My Kitchen Rules was on hand, along with two of the show’s contestants Will and Steve.
The Tamworth meeting was the third of seven races in the series and it was a great day out according to Mrs Wauch.
“We had an enjoyable day and it was lovely to meet Manu,” she said.
The horses that qualified for the final were Voodoo Lad ridden by Robert Thompson and Tarangower with Joshua Parr on board.
Walcha trainer George Woodward had Opera Blu in the qualifier, but after starting strongly the horse faded towards the end of the race.
