“The old website was in dire need of an upgrade for reasons beyond a mere desire to spruce it up freshen it up and modernise it,” she said.
“The oiriginal website was not Tablet or SmartPhone friendly, having been created before these devices existed, enabling it only be viewed on a computer or laptop. Being Tablet/SmartPhone-friendly is essential to the functionality of any website today with these devices now being the way of our world.”
Ms Crawford said a lot of hard work had been devoted to the design and navigational workings of the site, along with populating the site with information and getting industry specific authorities such as National Parks and Wildlife Services (NPWS) and the Walcha District Historical Society to proof read sections.
“All of the hard work has paid off and the result is something we are very proud of and we hope it makes Walcha proud also,” she said. ”The new website has fabulous imagery, mostly contributed by local photographers and NPWS, really showcasing the natural, creative and historical assets of Walcha.
The site is lively and interesting to look around with a lot of slideshows naturally keeping viewers more interested, enticing them to stay on the site for longer as it’s fun and there’s always something happening.”
The ART page offers links to the map and brochure of the Open Air Gallery, created by Megan Scrivener, as well as listing Walcha’s talented local artists with links to their own websites if they have one.
“Impressively most do, adding another depth to the online facility and further expressing the amazing calibre of Walcha’s artists,” said Ms Crawford.
There are also links to the official NPWS page, ensuring that the information available is current and non-contradictory.
The businesses on the STAY and EAT pages have been placed into categories to simplify the process for prospective travellers to find exactly what they are looking for.
The WHAT’S ON page has a slide show of annual events accompanied by a list of all events.
“Please let us know if you want an event listed,” said Ms Crawford.
“The site also offers a local business directory, so look up your business and if you require any changes to your listing or you are not listed and would like to be added either Lisa or myself will be more than happy to assist you.”
