ANYONE who read last week’s column would be aware of the adventure “Wirraway” grazier Neil Dunn and his better half Jacqui are about to embark on next week after Neil was selected as the NSW AFL Volunteer of the Year. Not only will the “Dynamic Duo” enjoy everything mentioned last week, but a few other things as well including airfares, accommodation and transfers.

ON Friday morning, New England Nomads junior coach Neil will be presented with his award by the Premier of Victoria Daniel Andrews over breakfast at Government House and will join in the grand final march though the streets of Melbourne where 150,000 usually take a stroll. At the end of the march, it will be a meet-and-greet photo session with the grand final players. Then, it’s game day pre-match party V.I.P seats to the “big one” followed by the post-match party.
I DID mention to Neil if Jacqui couldn’t go, I would be more than happy to tag along with him, to which he replied “Get in line big fella, and I can guarantee you it is a lengthy one” or words to that effect. Little wonder the AFL is heading in the night direction when they look after their people like that.
THE New England Nomads held their annual presentations at Bellevue Oval UNE, Armidale, last Saturday where Morgan Dunn received the leading goal scorer with 18, and Nicholas Buckland collected the Rising Star Award. A full report on the Junior Nomads next week.
SHARKS supporter Lisa Swanton had a bit of trouble shifting her mother’s car from one location in Fitzroy street to another last Friday, until Lisa let the handbrake off and away she went without any further problems.
THE recent wet weather has made off-road driving conditions a bit tricky as 2IC mechanic Darren Bird found out last Friday afternoon while driving the low loader in the Woolbrook area. “Dazza” required assistance to get the truck back into firm ground after he became bogged, but maintains there wasn’t much in it.
LAST week, the gremlins got into the system where it was reported Luke Wellings ran out of “ice” travelling up Walcha Road hill, where in fact it was meant to be “juice”, while “Gomes” was actually “Gomez” in the story about Steph Sweeney, the Go Go man. See how we go this week.

A REMINDER to all B.C Footy Tipsters that your end of season party is on this Saturday at 5pm leading into the second elimination semi-final between the Storm and the Rounders. Heard a whisper there may be some tasty entrees before the barbecue kicks in. Be there to find out.
WELL done to the organisers of the Roos and Jillaroos presentation night last Saturday where all those in attendance seemed to enjoy themselves. The way the B.C. was decked out set the scene for a great night with a big thank you to Dianne Green and her offsiders Robyn and Chris Broadbent, Senny Latham, Jacki Byrne, Peter Berry and Sonia Ussher.
AFTER the presentations, Jillaroos Player Bonnie Brown was enjoying herself after a season where she was a member of the winning team, was named Player of the Grand Final, Co-Group 4 Best and Fairest Player with her teammate Robyn Broadbent, and collected the Coach’s Award from Chris Cooney. Bonnie did become a bit disorientated during the night when she attempted to enter the B.C kitchen instead of the ladies rest room to powder her nose.
WHAT a great achievement by the husband and wife team of Lachlan and Bonnie Brown this season. “Board” was named Goup 4 Second Division Plate Best and Fairest Player of the Season while Bonnie took out the plate Ladies league tag Best and Fairest. Not only that, but “Board” went back-to-back after winning the second Division B+F in 2015. Good on ya, guys.
WALCHA Junior Cricket co-ordinator Peter Mooney is hoping to run two programs this season – Milo Cricket (5-10 year-olds) and a 20/20 Blast (7-12 year-olds), but it will depend on the number of players interested. Pete is looking at kicking off Thursday, October 20 straight after school with a view of running both programs for eight weeks. Milo Cricket will cost $75 per player while the 20/20 Blast is $99. Contact Peter on 0428 234 292. He would appreciate the assistance of any parents.
WALCHA Council has a new weather forecaster after the “Mayor of Towers Street”, Lawrence Hunt, predicted it would be raining yesterday morning and that was the reason he was pulling out of an early morning bike ride. A lot of budding Lennox Walkers have tried this on before and got it wrong, but Joe got it right.
SOMETIMES it would be better to take some advice and in hindsight, I probably should have taken some from John Stork Brazel last Sunday afternoon following the AGM at the B.C. Lack of space prevents the whole story being told here today, but I would like to thank the person who returned my “Tooheys Man Bag” to 68 E, Apsley Street. Happy as Larry twice in three weeks. Hard to believe really.
