CONGRATULATIONS to Peter Mooney and Daniel Boyd on scoring their maiden senior centuries last Saturday. Pete set a new one-day limited overs record for Walcha with 173, just one run clear of Nathan Goodwin on 172. “ALF” also scored a second 170 with both his big tons coming against Colts 12 month apart.

ONE fairly amazing thing is that when Pete scored his 173 last weekend, the next best score was 16 by Rob “Truck” Laurie and when “ALF” scored his 170, the next best score was 12 by Craig Lord. I don’t know about you, but usually when one batsman is scoring at will then the bloke at the other end should be a fair chance of doing the same. Well, not in those two games anyway.
JUST 15 years old, Daniel Boyd scored his 125 runs last Saturday. He could be the youngest batsman to register a century in senior Walcha cricket. And it would be no surprise if Mark “Turbo” Peters achieved the feat before he left school. If you are aware of any batsman younger than 15 racking up a local century, let me know.
SPORTING all-rounder Kyle Goodwin was a busy man this week which began last Saturday when he tied the knot with his new bride Carly Wood. No time for a honeymoon straight away as Kyle had to travel to Wagga to play in the State Bowls Championships where the champions from all 16 zones throughout NSW compete. He was to meet Wyong player Wayne Heisling in the opening round but could only go as far as the quarter-finals as he was flying out of Australia before the semi-finals were played.
BIG Wigs of the week - Peter Mooney 173, Daniel Boyd 125, Ed Blomfield 51, Luke Wellings 38, Craig Lord 29, Tory Yarnold 5/24, Peter Boyd 4/52, Luke Welling 3/12, Cameron Little 3/22, WIll Fletcher 3/29, Dominic Horneman 3/44, Peter Mooney 3/62.
POULTRY Farmers - Troy Yarnold (golden), Josh Lordanie (sIlver), Neil Dunn, Beau Abraham Cameron Little and Daniel Blanch.
FLIPPERS swimmer Chloe Mackaway didn’t take long to break her first record of the season when she shaved less than a second off her 16 years 100 metre freestyle time on Tuesday. “Nigel” currently holds 12 records from 12 to 16 years with the 200 metres freestyle the only one she doesn’t hold in the 16 years division. That still belongs to Tina Doyle and has so since 1987.
Cricket report
Rugby League defeated Kentucky and Round Swam rounded up Colts when the Walcha News Cup resumed last Saturday.
League set Kentucky a total of 4/219 thanks mainly to opener Peter Mooney who scored a massive 173 and fellow opener Rob Laure who contributed 16 in a stand of 114.
Abraham brothers Sam and Beau both took a wicket as did Bob Jex who then combined with Daniel Boyd to put on an opening partnership of 87 before Jex went for 31. Boyd went on to make 125, but it wasn’t enough as Kentucky were dismissed for 192.
Player of the match Mooney bowled 3/162, Peter Boyd 4/52 and Aaron Johnson 2/49.
In the other match at the Park, Swam batted first racking up 151 thanks mainly to Luke Wellings 36, Craig Lord 29, Lee Harrison 24 and Barry Hoy 19.
Three Colts bowlers claimed three wickets each – Cameron Little 3/22 Will Fletcher 3/29 and Dominic Horneman 3/44.
In reply, Colts made 115 with Ed Blomfield leading the way with 51, but he didn’t receive much assistance with Stu Halliday next best on 13.
Halliday was unlucky after Bloomfield smashed Lord back down the wicket, hit the bowler’s hand and ricocheted into the bowler’s end stumps with Halliday out of his ground.
Man of the Match Troy Yarnold captured 5/24, opener Luke Wellings 3/12 while Lord grabbed the other scalp.
