REIGNING Walcha Womens Golf Champion Cheryl McDonald added another string to her bow late last year when she won the Gold Division of the Country Scratch Section of the NSW Medal Final at Stonecutters Ridge near Blacktown. Cheryl was thrilled with her front nine holes but slightly less when she encountered a few bunkers on the back nine.
REPRESENTING New England in the final, Cheryl qualified by winning the yearly Walcha Medal and then took out the N.E. final at Tenterfield. She was accompanied in Sydney by Jeanette Wark who won both the local and N.E. Bronze finals in the lead up to the NSW titles. Good onya girls.
A REMINDER to Walcha Flippers members that the annual James Harwood Swim Clinic is being conducted Sunday, January 29 here in Walcha, kicking off at 9am and going thought to 12 noon. For more information, contact president Angus Warden.
COLTS have joined Round Swamp co-leaders of the Walcha News Cup after defeating them by 21 runs at John Oxley Sportsground last Saturday. Both teams are currently on 44 points, followed by Uralla 34, Rugby League 32 and Kentucky 22.

RUGBY League cricketer Chris Watts handed in a match-winning performance last Saturday against Kentucky at the Park when he snared 4/7 first up and then hit an unbeaten 29 runs to lead his team to victory. Out at John Oxley, Colts all-rounder Will Fletcher didn’t go too bad either, racking up half a ton before capturing a couple of wickets and was named Man of the Match.
GOLF
CLUB captain Will Brennan was the overall winner of the Regional Australia Bank stroke medal round last Sunday after carding a 66 nett which also entitled him to a trophy donated by A.J. Cross which was played for in conjunction with the competition.
His six over par 76 was good enough to secure the A Grade mug. Veteran John Mann once again shot under his age to take out B Grade with a 67 nett while Julie Presnell won C Grade on 68 nett.
The Scratch section went to Andrew Bowden with a 75 off the beater and he also won the putting competition after engaging his flat stick on 22 occasions.
Club secretary Jenny Lisle picked up the coveted Pink Shirt for most putts with 33 jabs.
Sharpest shooters at the pins were Vic Coulter (3 and 9), Don Brooks 16, while no player was clever enough to read the bead on 18.
In match play, David Dunn finally got the job done on the 19th hole against Doug McDonald.
Johan Mann downed Bill Heazlett 2 and 1 Crichton Barr rounded up Tim Beaumont 2 up, the same score Vic Coulter defeated Simon Cross and David Sweeney beat Neil Dark while Miles Archdale rolled Wayne Brennan 7 and 5.
